Effects of Combining a Ketogenic Diet with Resistance Training on Body Composition, Strength, and Mechanical Power in Trained Individuals: A Narrative Review

چکیده
Ketogenic diets (KD) have gained popularity in recent years among strength-trained individuals. The present review summarizes current evidence—with a particular focus on randomized controlled trials—on the effects of KD body composition and muscle performance (strength power output) Although long-term studies (>12 weeks) are lacking, growing evidence supports effectiveness an ad libitum energy-balanced for reducing total fat mass, at least short term. However, no or negligible benefits been observed when comparing hypocaloric with conventional resulting same energy deficit. Moreover, some suggest that might impair resistance training-induced hypertrophy, sometimes concomitant decrements performance, expressed absolute units not relative to mass (e.g., one-repetition maximum). therefore be beneficial strategy promoting loss, although it recommendable option gain strength/power. More research is needed adoption strategies avoiding potentially detrimental effect strength/power increasing protein intake, reintroduction carbohydrates before competition). In summary, as yet scarce support major Furthermore, safety this type diet remains determined.

Effects of a ketogenic diet on strength and power
Background The effects of a LCKD on endurance performance has been investigated several times, and it has already received a review. For this type of activity, no decrements in performance are observed once the participants are adjusted to the diet. However, LCKD’s are yet to be investigated in a resistance training model. One study has examined strength in relation to a LCKD, finding no decrem...
متن کاملStrength and Body Composition Changes in Recreationally Strength-Trained Individuals: Comparison of One versus Three Sets Resistance-Training Programmes
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of increasing the volume of weight-training from one to three sets upon body composition and muscular strength. METHODS Sixteen male weight-trainers volunteered to act as subjects and were randomly assigned to one of two training groups. Supervised weight-training targeting the upper body was conducted three times per week for eig...
متن کاملThe effects of consuming a high protein diet (4.4 g/kg/d) on body composition in resistance-trained individuals
BACKGROUND The consumption of dietary protein is important for resistance-trained individuals. It has been posited that intakes of 1.4 to 2.0 g/kg/day are needed for physically active individuals. Thus, the purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of a very high protein diet (4.4 g/kg/d) on body composition in resistance-trained men and women. METHODS Thirty healthy resistan...
متن کاملThe Effect of Different Resistance Training Load Schemes on Strength and Body Composition in Trained Men
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of moderate-load (10 RM) and low-load (20 RM) resistance training schemes on maximal strength and body composition. Sixteen resistance-trained men were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups: a moderate-load group (n = 8) or a low-load group (n = 8). The resistance training schemes consisted of 8 exercises performed 4 times per week for 6 weeks. ...
متن کاملEffect of protein-supplement timing on strength, power, and body-composition changes in resistance-trained men.
The effect of 10 wk of protein-supplement timing on strength, power, and body composition was examined in 33 resistance-trained men. Participants were randomly assigned to a protein supplement either provided in the morning and evening (n = 13) or provided immediately before and immediately after workouts (n = 13). In addition, 7 participants agreed to serve as a control group and did not use a...
